Trek to Bhagavathi hills , Vellore

TREK TO BAGAVATHI HILLS ,VELLORE Our group Trek talks was out of action ,due to Covid lock down. Last Sunday 4/7/21., After lock down we went to Bhagavathi hills. It's in Vellore, just 4kms from our residence, literally visible from our terrace. But ,hv a never gone there. It s approximately 850 ft hill with greeneries. It has many history within it. It has a large jain feet dating to 3rd century., stone beds and caves. It has Tamili inscriptions , said to be made during Rashtrakutas regime. Historically, Thakkolam Rashtrakutas have defeated Rajaadhitya the crown prince of Paranthaka chola by Kannaradevan ( Krishna III). Hence some of the inscriptions in tamil also bears Kannara devan's name. One site has Kannada inscriptions too. The trek up the hill is a wonderful experience,as fully surrounded by trees, cool breeze, in the midway we have mandapa ruins , mostly Mughal architecture might be during Arcot Nawab rule. When we reach rocky part of the hill,we can see stone steps leads to caves, most thrilling one is the cave in which goddess is idolized, most part of the cave is dark and only one can squeeze through, ( fat people , don't try 😀😀). If you are climbing up the hill and not visited the cave, then you have missed a great experience. After coming out of cave , we had a birthday cake cutting of young girl Druthi followed by Trek talk by Vijay Surana on topic "Wired to connect"., about how human beings try to connect with fellow beings throughout the history of mankind. After the talk,we descended the hill, it was more tedious than climbing up. But overall a great experience . photos of our trek are available on my FB page https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=4921046981255453&id=100000505984632
